Pistons: Jury Judged Davis Not Guilty
The Detroit Pistons center Dale Davis was acquitted on Friday 2nd of December on assault charges.
The jury deliberates for three hours before judging Davis not guilty of three counts of assault, one count of assault on a law officer and one count of resisting an officer without violence. Davis expressed his relief after hearing the results of the two-day trial. He asserted that he did not take any decision in filling a civil lawsuit against Miami Beach police.
The player was arrested Aug. 1st at a Miami Beach hotel for allegedly threatening security guards and police, and leveling profanities at them according to a police report. Police explained that they have been called to intervene at the hotel by the security workers after Davis refused to leave the hotel while officer repeatedly ask him to do so.
Before going outside with the officers, Davis gave his identification documents. It’s after they left the building that Davis accused the officers of targeting him because he is black.
According to the police report, Davis was asked to remove his hands from his pockets for officer safety. After asking officers if they were going to shoot him Davis eventually complied. Davis pulled out money, three cellular phones and credit cards. Then the report continues saying that while putting the items back in his pockets, Davis told the officers he would beat them up if they took off their badges and got rid of their guns.
Eventually, the report states that Davis balled his fists and started walking toward officers in an aggressive manner. The officers warned the basketball player that he would be hit with a Taser if he continued heading to them with his fist balled. But Davis didn't stop, entailing an officer to zap Davis in the chest, who fell to the ground. Following this event, he was arrested, taken into custody and charged on three counts of assault charge on police officers.
